WHAT IS CANTERBURY?

The Episcopal Canterbury Episcopal at MSU is the Episcopal campus ministry at Mississippi State University based out of the local parish, Church of the Resurrection in Starkville. Here at Mississippi State, we strive to welcome students and faculty by providing a program geared toward meeting your spiritual needs and offering opportunities for you to experience growth in your life with Christ, inclusion in a community of faith, and full incorporation into the life and ministries of the Church at Church of the Resurrection.

WAYS WE WELCOME YOU!

  • Canterbury Fellowship meets on Wednesdays for our primary gatherings AND we gather at various times for worship, reflection, fun and fellowship.  (See Regular Gatherings below for more information..)

  • Liturgical Service includes serving as a Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM), lector, acolyte, altar guild, or musician.  Students are invited and encouraged to serve at both Wednesday and Sunday services.

  • Choir at Resurrection is open to all who desire to sing and make a joyful noise, including MSU students. Contact Dr. Leanne Fazio, our organist-choirmaster, (662) 323-3483.

  • Youth Leadership is enriched by Canterbury leadership.  Students serve as EYC coordinator and assistants.  To help, contact Trey Thompson resurrectionstarkville@gmail.com or (662) 323-3483.

  • Christian Education/Formation ranges from Inquirers Classes to the Labyrinth, from concerts to African Bible Studies, and from Reflection groups to Popcorn Theology, as well as Diocesan events such as VOCARE.  Explore. Pray. Sing. Stretch. Grow!

The Canterbury Lodge: A Home Away from Home

The little house behind Resurrection is called \ldblquote The Canterbury Lodge.\rdblquote    In the summer of 2002, students and parishioners began renovating the house to provide a home away from home. It was dedicated and blessed in October 2003.  Now the Lodge is a place for YOU to study, gather, eat, pray, sing, chill, and feel at home! So come on by the Lodge! A furnished kitchen is available for your use, if you would like to cook some meals rather than eat on-campus or in your dorm room or apartments. Please see the chaplain for access availability and entry code, or to schedule use of the Lodge!

Reaching Beyond Our Walls

Canterbury joins forces with the parish Outreach and Servant Ministry Committees to strive to be Christ\rquote s hands and heart in the world. We have journeyed on a Honduras Building Mission, hammered HABITAT nails, rung the Salvation Army Bell, and delivered Angel Tree baskets at Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Other Mission Opportunities are currently in the works, a recent one included a student and parishioner trip to El Salvador in May 2006. Reach out!

The Canterbury Advisory Committee

Canterbury is guided by the Canterbury Advisory Committee, a group of students and parishioners, who meet regularly and work with the chaplain to envision, develop, support, and help us live out the life and ministries of Canterbury. CAC is currently being reorganized.  Interested in serving? Contact the chaplain!
